One would wonder why there has been an increase in the number of electric gates in the environment nowadays. The reasons are numerous and this write-up will outline some of the advantages and disadvantages of having electric gates.
Advantages
1. Security: Electric gates proffer privacy and security to a property. Because anyone that will pass through an electric gates must have a connection with the environment, unwanted people are reduced from the property. Electric gates are usually opened with codes or remotes, so if an outsider wants access to the property, the residents of the property will have to release an ‘opener’ to the outsider and this is usually done when the residents know who the outsider or visitor is.
2. Status: A property with an electric gate denotes status because electric gates are considered accessories. So, many people that purchase them consider it as a boost to their property status as well as an investment. This can easily be proven by asking those who purchased a property with an electric gate. One of their first answers to the things that drew their attention to the property is the presence of the electric gate. They also confess that it added to their reason of purchasing the property up to the amount they did.
3. Convenience: The convenience of opening ones gate without coming out of the car and watching it close from ones rear mirror is very convenient. The convenience can be seen more in harsh weathers when it is too cold, snowy or even in the dark. Also the convenience of opening the gate from ones house if there is a guest cannot be achieved with other types of gates that are not electric.
4. Reduced space absorption: This is especially true with electric sliding gates because the do not take up the space that the normal flip-open gates will. They practically take up a line of space leaving more room for parking, the lawn and other things that would have been deprived of that space.
Disadvantages
Cost: The installation of electric gates involves a huge financial expenditure. This ranges from the purchase of the gate itself to paying for the service of the installers. Then begins the journey of maintenance. For wooden gates, since they are organic, they absorb moisture and decay easily. Weather conditions can also make them to warp from the hinges thereby losing the automation of the gate. Wooden gates are hard to maintain especially after the first few years of installation. For metal gates, they are costlier to purchase than the wooden gates and they do require constant repainting and maintenance to prevent and protect from rust.
Inconvenience: Sometimes, electric gates pose inconvenience in cases like power failures, and malfunctioning of the system. Individuals, in such times can be trapped inside the property or outside for sometime before the solution is figured out.
In conclusion, the advantages of having electric gates outweigh the disadvantages and it is advisable to have one if ones budget permits it.
